Peter Morgan from Linton Contracting Ltd believes graduates from Tai Poutini Polytechnic’s Civil Plant programme have that “little bit extra”.

The Southland company operates excavators, dump trucks and motor scrapers and Mr Morgan has employed two TPP graduates over the years.

“Going through the TPP programme gives them a little bit extra when it comes to knowing how to use the machinery. They’ve also got a good grounding in safety and maintenance which gives them a head start,” he says.

Mr Morgan believes the construction industry in Southland could be on the cusp of a boom so he may be looking to employ more TPP graduates in the future.
