Businesses get on board with Careers Expo
More than 30 local businesses, tertiary providers and support agencies have signed-up to be a part of the West Coast Careers Expo at Tai Poutini Polytechnic (TPP) this weekend.
The Expo, to be held at TPP’s Greymouth campus this Saturday 16 September 2017 from 11am to 2pm, will provide job-starters and career-changers with information on what jobs are available on the Coast and what training they can do to help them get started.
TPP West Coast General Manager Teresa Schwellnus says the expo brings together local businesses, education providers and support agencies to create a one-stop-shop for job seekers.
“There are already more than 30 business and other agencies signed-up – and it’s not too late for others to take part. We’re expecting the expo to be a great opportunity to show people exactly what’s available in the local jobs market, and the training they can do to help them get a foot in the door.
Agencies like the Ministry of Social Development will also be there to talk through funding options.
“As well as young people looking to get started in their chosen career, we’re also focused on people who are looking to change jobs after some years.
“Most people change their careers at some stage in their working life – whether it’s to try something they’ve always wanted to pursue, or because the market itself has changed. The expo will be a great opportunity for those people to find out more about the jobs that are out there and how they can get started. This will be a real community event, and there are some fantastic businesses and agencies signed-up to take part.”
Attending the TPP West Coast Careers Expo 2017 will be: West Coast Trades Academy, APM Workcare, Workbridge, Crofts Transport Ltd, Fusion IT Company, Kawatiri Yoga Collective, Marshall & Heaphy, Fabriko Creative (Koneki), Electoral Commission, NZ Defence Force, Development West Coast, Greymouth District Council, St John Ambulance, Fulton Hogan, West Coast District Health Board, West Fleet Greymouth, Harbour Holdings, Westland Milk Products, WestREAP, Ministry of Social Development, Primary ITO, NZ Police, Grey Star, Tech Space, Westland Recreation Centre, Pure Beauty, Coastguard, West Coast Regional Council, Dept of Conservation, Westport Deepsea Fishing School, and EPIC Westport.
As well as offering local people an insight into the job opportunities available across the Coast, the Careers Expo signals a new approach being taken by the Polytechnic to partner with local industry and the community. Taking a region-wide approach to the expo aims to support wider economic development and training objectives on the West Coast.
