Programme Leader – Audio Engineering and Music Production
Daryl Tapsell counts himself lucky that music has played a key role in every aspect of his life so far. With 25 years’ experience as a professional musician, and almost as long in the freelance live sound and recording business, Daryl has plenty of knowledge to share with his students. Daryl’s teaching role involves practical studio recording along with the maths and physics aspects of audio engineering. He is also responsible for the Tikanga Maori aspects of the programme and says he enjoys the fact that his students keep him current with emerging trends and practice. Rock and metal production have been Daryl’s professional focus, but he says he loves every aspect of the music business. Along with his professional roles, Daryl also offers his time and equipment to support community projects including school groups, galas and other events.
