Programme Leader – Foundation Sound and Music
Working and performing with “music obsessives” is the best part about being a MAINZ teacher, according to Phil Oxenham. Phil has helped develop many of the popular MAINZ programmes and brings extensive performance and teaching acumen to the role. His first paying gig, at Chez Paree Wellington in 1964, earned him five pounds and as much coffee as he could drink – he says there was nothing like MAINZ in those days so he became involved in teacher training while continuing to perform and tour with bands across New Zealand and Australia. He has been with MAINZ since 2002 and his interests span songwriting, recording, examining the “role of the producer” and live music performance.
