Merrie McDougall

Career Planning, Disabilities

Merrie has worked at TPP/MAINZ for 15 years: initially as Office Coordinator, then in Marketing, and now as Career Planning and Disabilities Coordinator.

Merrie retrained and became a career practitioner a few years ago with a Graduate Diploma in Career Development, has subsequently completed a Post Graduate Diploma, and is now nearing the end of a Master in Career Development.

At MAINZ Auckland and Christchurch Merrie sees students individually for any career work: Career indecision and transitions/CV and cover letters/Job interview preparation.  She takes classes for career planning, CV/Cover letter writing, and job interview preparation.  She also has responsibility for students with any disabilities, whether physical or mental health.

Outside her job at MAINZ, Merrie also does volunteer career counselling with refugees, as well as working on a committee to raise money for the education of Vietnamese children who have been victims of child trafficking.  She also facilitates workshops for people who are transitioning in their careers.

In earlier years Merrie played several instruments and sang in choirs and quartets.  An early occupation was teaching piano, when she ran a small ‘after-school music school’ for some years.  She still teaches piano for a few hours each week, and still sings four-part harmony with friends, but mostly only after a few drinks!
