Course Attended: Business (L6)
Part time study pays off for Business graduate
Completing a Diploma in Business through part time study has enabled Jo Negri to develop her professional career, bringing practical and relevant skills to her work.
A toddler and a full-time job didn’t stop Jo from enrolling in the New Zealand Diploma in Business six years ago. Her employer, industrial equipment supplier CablePrice, encouraged her to undertake the study, and she has completed one paper each semester since, studying in both block courses and night classes.
Jo says that enrolling with Tai Poutini Polytechnic has meant that she always has a tutor available to answer any queries.
“I could have studied online, but I felt that having actual people I could talk to, and classes to go to, kept me motivated and on track rather than trying to do it by myself. The tutors are all really approachable, and understand that you have a life outside of polytech. They do what they can to help you get through it.”
“It’s definitely not easy to do the juggle with work, family and study, but it’s so worthwhile. I found that so long as I was organised, I was fine.”
As her study has progressed, so has Jo’s career with CablePrice. Now in an Administration Manager role, her duties include financial and IT systems management.
“Through my study, I’ve developed the confidence to work in different areas of the business. I love the variety of my job, no day is the same. My business skills have improved with the practical report writing, communication skills and computer experience that I’ve gained, and I’m really enjoying it,” she says.
