Course Attended: Music and Audio - MAINZ
A future in audio
While working for a major record company in his native Germany, Alex Paschmanns took time to reflect on his future. ‘After a couple of years, I could see my desires more clearly. I wanted to get creative again, make music again, that was something I definitely wanted to do.’
After careful research, he decided the Certificate in Audio Engineering and Music Production was exactly what he was looking for. Its blend of hands-on skills and creative practice, underpinned by a strong theoretical background, plus the option to progress to degree-level study, proved irresistible.
Alex enjoys the scope and variety of the programme content. From the physics of sound, learning how to use Logic Pro X and ProTools, practicing studio skills, recording techniques, mix-down and mastering, to live sound, basic music theory and song writing. ‘It’s really cool that we learn a little bit of everything. The tutors are really competent and relate everything we do to how it can be applied in industry. We get so much practical experience, which gives us the opportunity to decide in which part of audio we would like to specialise.’
Alex is confident he’ll develop the knowledge and skills to forge a career in audio. ‘With great tutors, equipment and experiences, the skills I’m acquiring at MAINZ are taking me in a totally new direction. I have the feeling I’ve finally found my place in the music industry – and audio is what I want to do.’
