Course Attended: Outdoor Education and Ski Patrol
Deciding to retrain in Outdoor Education was a complete change of career direction for me, after working as a therapist for five years.
The course gave me a high level of technical skill and I was confident in my abilities and that I had been taught the right things to work in the industry. The tutors at TPP are approachable and down to earth, really people- and relationship-focused.
After completing my qualification I worked as a kayaking instructor in the Abel Tasman for two seasons, heading to Canada in the winter to do the same thing over there.
Then in late 2014 I started working for Outward Bound, based in Anakiwa near Picton. I had done Outward Bound twice myself, which had actually been part of my motivation for re-training, and I love the work I do now. Some days I can’t believe that I get paid to do what I do; there are so many moments that are so special you want to capture them forever.
