Course Attended: Construction

It’s been about 13 years since I did the carpentry programme, but it was definitely the right choice for me. I got a job straight out of the course with John Griffin Builder who had taken me on for work experience. Now I’m the foreman and I can’t think of anything else I’d rather be doing.

The training was a great way to get you ready for work and learn the basics. A highlight was building the house; you know that someone is going to be living in it when you are finished and it really makes it that much more real.

If anyone is thinking that building might be for them, then it just makes sense to do the training: you get those basic skills that employers are looking for, as well as getting the book work out of the way before you get stuck-in to your apprenticeship.
