National Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Workplace Safety) Level 3

 
This programme comprising 9 compulsory credits and 41 elective credits, focuses on workplace health and safety knowledge as well as recognising competencies associated with a range of workplace safety and health issues from specific industries.

This programme is targeted at those currently working in industry that have an interest, desire or need to become more involved in the management and co-ordination of OSH activities in their places of work.

Core Elements


Graduates will gain skills and knowledge in:
  • The protection of health and safety in the workplace
  • Applying safe working practices in the workplace
  • Applying hazard identification and risk assessment procedures in the workplace
  • Applying knowledge of both general and industry specific methodologies for managing hazards in industry environments


Further Study Paths


Progression to higher level qualification in occupational health and safety, such as the National Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety (Co-ordination) (Level 4) and National Diploma in Business (Health & Safety Management)


Career Opportunities


Specialisation in the occupational health and safety area and management and co-ordination of OSH activities at places of work.


Entry Criteria


  • Be 16 years of age or over
  • Employed or have a range of work experience that enables them to understand the industry context of the programme
  • Applicants for whom English is not their first language must have a IELTS score of 5.5

National Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Co-ordination) Level 4

 
This programme comprising 31 compulsory credits and 34 elective credits, focuses on the practical management of occupational health and safety in the workplace and allows candidates to select skills and knowledge relevant to their sector of industry.

This programme is targeted at those currently working in industry that hold positions as first line managers, safety supervisors/representatives, co-ordinators or team leaders and are actively involved in the practical management of OSH and wish to gain further skills and knowledge in this area.

Core Elements


Graduates will gain skills and knowledge in:
  • Hazard identification and control for OSH practice
  • Evaluating OSH standards and practice
  • Incident investigation in the workplace
  • Implementing a health and safety plan for a workplace
  • Applying knowledge of both general and industry specific methods for managing hazards in industry environments


Further Study Paths


Progression to programmes such as National Diploma in Business (Health & Safety Management) (Level 5) as participants become more involved in the organisation and management of workplace activities.

Work site Health and Safety Officers and organisational Health and Safety Advisors.
