National Certificate in Scaffolding (Elementary) Level 3

The National Certificate Scaffolding (Elementary) (Level 3) recognises the skills of a trade certified scaffolder.
The holder of the qualification is able to base out, erect, and dismantle straightforward proprietary and ‘tube and fitting’ scaffolding structures to any height. The holder can also assure the compliance of the structures, move safely on them at heights and lead a team to build elementary scaffolds.
This is a 2 year programme delivered in block courses which is integrated into your in-job training.
Graduates will be able to apply for a certificate of competence to erect notifiable scaffolding in accordance with the qualification gained. They will also be qualified to work at heights, set up fall arrest systems, and sling regular loads and communicate during crane operations.

The Tai Poutini Polytechnic Certificate and Diploma in Managing Scaffolding Operations is also available.

Entry Criteria
- Be a 16 years of age or over.
- Applicants must have successfully achieved NCEA Level One (or equivalent), or be able to demonstrate sound written and oral skills; or have achieved a local or National Certificate in the Construction industry or a related field.
- Applicants for whom English is a second language must meet IELTS (or equivalent) Level 5.5 or above.
Special Entry may be granted when evidence exists that the applicant can successfully complete the programme. Please contact the Polytechnic for details.

National Certificate in Scaffolding (Intermediate) Level 4

The National Certificate in Intermediate Scaffolding (Level 4) recognises the skills of a Trade Certified Scaffolder, with greater technical abilities.
The holder of this qualification is able to plan, erect and dismantle complex scaffolding structures such as, birdcage scaffolds, vessels scaffolds, sloping platforms, catch fans & simple canterlevers. The holder can also assure the compliance of the structures and lead a scaffolding team.
This is a 1 year programme delivered in block courses that will compliment the experience gained on the job.

National Certificate in Scaffolding (Advanced) Level 5

The National Certificate in Advanced Scaffolding recognises the skills and knowledge required to work as a Specialist Scaffolder.
The term ‘advanced’ refers to the range of equipment used and the level of competence of the qualification holder.
Holders of the National Certificate with the Advanced Scaffolding strand are those whose work is in the
planning and erection of ALL scaffolds to meet the highest demands found in the scaffolding industry. This is the highest level qualification available in this industry.
This is a 1 year programme delivered in block courses that will reflect industry skills & knowledge gained in the industry

Holders of the National Certificate with the Suspended Scaffolding strand are those whose work is in relation to cable supported scaffolds in their various configurations, such as bosuns chairs, swing stages and BMU’s.
This is a 2 year programme delivered in block courses that will be integrated in to your job.

Certificate in Managing Scaffolding Operations Level 4
|

This programme will provide managers and team leaders with the potential to develop their business skills necessary to effectively manage small to medium scaffold companies.
Graduates will recognise the skills and knowledge required to successfully:
- communicate with team members and external clients;
- solve problems and resolve conflicts both internally and externally;
- tender, negotiate and manage contracts;
- build teams and train staff;
- add value by applying specific scaffolding business skills in the areas of occupational health and safety, and finance; and
- have a base knowledge of legislative requirements relating to the scaffolding industry.

Diploma in Managing Scaffolding Operations Level 5
|
|
|
This programme is aimed at the managers of scaffold companies who are seeking a greater depth and breadth of management skills.
Graduates will recognise the skills and knowledge required to:
- add value by applying specific scaffolding business skills in the areas of leadership, human resources, occupational health and safety, and finance;
- successfully tender, negotiate and manage contracts;
- recruit and manage the performance and employment of staff;
- manage the financial resources of an organisation; and
- have a base knowledge of legislative requirements relating to Local Government, Building Act and other legislative requirements that impact on the scaffolding industry.
