Plenty for the public to see and do at Polytechnic Open Evening


A live cooking demonstration to inspire your next BBQ is just one of the great activities on show at Tai Poutini Polytechnic’s (TPP’s) Open Evenings on Thursday 23 January 2020.

Potential students, people thinking about up-skilling and anyone in the community who wants to learn more about what TPP has to offer are welcome to come along to one of next week’s Opening Evenings and see what we’re all about. Open Evenings will run at both Greymouth and Westport campuses from 4pm to 6pm, with staff and tutors available to talk through TPP programmes and study options, with part-time options available

A highlight of the evening at our Greymouth campus is sure to be TPP Chef Tutor Bradley Stanger’s Gourmet BBQ Food Live Cooking Demonstration – kicking off at 4.30pm in the Atrium. Get some inspiration for your next BBQ and impress your friends with Bradley’s tasty, gourmet-style food ideas to elevate the classic Kiwi BBQ. He’ll be whipping up some delicious courses, including:

  • Garlic and salt rosemary sous vide BBQ grill lamb, served with a classic Greek salad using herbs from the chef’s organic polytechnic garden
  • Chickpea, garlic, falafel, beetroot and pickled red onion salad with roasted hazelnut, chefs’ garden mint yoghurt dressing.
  • BBQ Asian-style whole stuffed tarakihi, en papillote (paper bag cooking).

TPP Leader – Engagement Mequa Hourston says the Open Evening is a great opportunity for people to come along and talk directly to tutors to find out more to help them in their decision-making for study in 2020.

“We’re also happy to welcome members of the public who want to find about more about TPP and what makes TPP a great place to study. We’re here to deliver quality, sustainable tertiary education that meets the needs of our region, so we’re always keen to talk to local people about how we can help them.”

There will be a free BBQ and coffee at both open evenings for everyone to enjoy.
