Outdoor and Adventure Education

Make New Zealand’s rivers, mountains and beaches your workplace with our world-famous Outdoor Education training. You’ll cover all the practical, leadership and cultural elements that you need to start a successful career in the outdoors.

Our Certificate and Diploma programmes cover the practical skills you need to handle yourself and your clients in the outdoors as you work toward becoming an outdoor instructor.

Practical lessons are supported by study of risk assessment and management, meteorology, environmental science, communication skills, tikanga Māori, first aid, group facilitation and storytelling.

The personal technical skillset of Diploma graduates will be equivalent to that required by professional level qualifications (NZOIA, SKOANZ, NZRA) so graduates are capable of operating in moderate-to-high risk outdoor settings. They will specialise in technical pursuit instruction, education or tourism experience management.
