About the course

A forklift licence consists of two parts, the F endorsement and the OSH certificate.

OSH certificate:

  • Entitles you to drive a forklift in an enclosed workplace. Expires every 3 years.

F Endorsement: 

  • Entitles you to drive a forklift in workplace, public, or on public roads and Is added to your licence and does not expire.

Core elements

A Forklift course is over one day and includes theory and practical components. You will have to study pre-learning material, pass a test on the theory and complete a practical assessment on a forklift. Additional practical forklift operation training is available.

Forklift OSH

People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate knowledge of the safe operation of a forklift; perform a pre-operational inspection and start up procedure for a forklift; demonstrate practical forklift skills; and park and shut down a forklift.

Forklift F

This unit standard is for people wishing to obtain an F (forklift) driver licence endorsement. People credited with this unit standard are able to describe: the legal requirements relating to the driving of a forklift on a road; driving procedures and general considerations for driving a forklift safely on a road; environmental factors affecting the safe driving of a forklift on a road; and demonstrate procedures for driving a forklift safely and legally on a road.

You will be issued with a certificate for your forklift endorsement to put on your drivers licence you need to take your certificate to the licensing agency along with:

  • Your drivers licence
  • Proof of residency (bank statement, or bill of some sort, showing your address).

You will also be issued with a wallet card for the OSH component of the course which will have the expiry date on it recommending the refresher date. The following unit standards will be added to your record of learning once you have completed the approved course and unit standard assessments to competency standard.

The two unit standards you gain are:

  • US 18496 Forklift Endorsement - Demonstrate knowledge and skills for driving a forklift on a road for endorsement F (Forklifts)
  • US 10851 OSH - Operate a powered industrial lift truck

  • Participants must hold a current Full Class 1 Driver Licence

Entry requirements

The course is designed for people who have already been taught the safe operation of a forklift and require the unit standards assessments. The required pre-existing knowledge and experience in operation of a forklift this can be evidenced by:

OSH

  • An employer nomination to attend the course.
  • A supervisor attestation of existing knowledge and experience.
  • A previous work history detailing experience at safely operating a forklift.
  • Applicants for whom English is a second language must meet IELTS (or equivalent) Level 5.5.

F Endorsement

  • An employer nomination to attend the course.
  • A supervisor attestation of existing knowledge and experience.
  • A previous work history detailing experience at safely operating a forklift.
  • Full Class 1 drivers licence.
  • Applicants for whom English is a second language must meet IELTS (or equivalent) Level 5.5.
